Our school was founded as 2nd T.E.L.(Technical Vocational Lyceum) in 1988 in the city of Kozani, the capital of Western Macedonia of Greece.Since 2006 our school was renamed to 2nd EPA.L.(Vocational Lyceum) KOZANIS.

Upon graduation our students receive a High School Certificate and a Diploma in Secondary Vocational Education in the following fields:

  • Health, Welfare and Wellness (Nursing, Physiotherapy, Nursery, Hairdressing and Aesthetics)
  • Computer Science (Network Technicians and Information Technology Applications)
  • Management and Economics (Accounting and Tourist Industry Clerks)
  • Agronomy and Sustainable Development (Food Technology and Plant Production)

The subjects offered are mostly practical and are conducted in laboratories with the use of innovative teaching methods and on-the-spot training.

The school hosts 450 students of various socio-economical and cultural backgrounds and 

  • 60 teachers 
  • 5 special education teachers 
  • 1 psychologist 
  • 5 people employed as assistant staff

After finishing school, students can

  • access universities for further studies
  • attend a post-secondary education apprenticeship year
  • find a job related to their studies Diploma
  • attend a one or two-year course in a different specialty in order to obtain a second Diploma

Our school has also hosted refugees and immigrants of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds and will continue doing so if needed in the future.

The members of the staff have worked as volunteers in various fields and have been awarded with praises, certificates of attendance and diplomas from a number of organizers and coordinators. The school has also taken part in Erasmus+ programmes  as a member of a consortium and has been engaged in e-twinning programmes for a number of years. Here is a list of what we have done so far:

  1. 1st prize in Sustainability from the Municipality of Kozani (November 2015)
  2. Certificate of Participation in an Exhibition of Student Art, organized from the Greek Ministry of Education and the Regional Office of Education of Western Macedonia (June 2018)
  3. Praise of participation in the student competition “EU IN MY REGION-EUREGION 2017” in the subcategory of photograph, organized by the Administrative  District of Western Macedonia and the Regional Office of Education of Western Macedonia (November 2018)
  4. Certificate of Participation in the workshop and performance “Dancing to Connect 2019”, organized by the ONASSIS STEGI, the U.S.A. Embassy and the Municipality of Kozani (March 2019)
  5. Certificate of Participation in “What if it were you?”, a programme aiming at bringing awareness toward human rights and refugee issues, organized by the Panhellenic Network for Theatre in Education and UNHCR, the U.N. Refugee Agency (2021-2022)
  6. Erasmus+ as member of the consortium of the Regional Office of Education of Western Macedonia in  the project “Life with Values”, with schools from Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Poland and Turkey (2019-2021)
  7. e-Twinning Quality Label for the project “Your blood can save lives” (October 2016)
  8. e-Twinning Quality Label for the project “ACTIVE CITIZEN COMPANIES” (September 2018)
  9. (running) e-Twinning project with the title: “Let me tell you a story about a plant” in collaboration with 3 more schools from Greece (Chios, Kilkis and Thessaloniki) one from Croatia and one from Poland
  10. (running) e-Twinning project with the title: “Inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the school setting” in collaboration with E..E.E.EK. KOZANIS (Secondary Vocational School for students with disabilities) and the Greek School of Bucarest ‘Athena Romania’
  11. Erasmus+ as member of the consortium of the Regional Office of Education of Western Macedonia (in search for partnership to run next school year 2023-2024)

Our school has also been an active member of local cultural events and  associations and has received donations from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

Our experience in the above mentioned projects inspires us to keep going and search for opportunities to become better and improve our skills and knowledge.

All teachers are holders of Bachelor degrees in their fields of expertise and are experienced  professionals in both the private and the public sector. Quite a few hold Master’s degrees connected with their field of studies. They have also been trained in various fields such as ICT, class management, learning disabilities, inclusion, differentiated teaching, descriptive assessment  and others. Most of them have at least a B2 Certificate in English. They have participated in a number of projects(e-twinning, erasmus, wro), european competitions (competition pitch), school projects on a number of subjects (cultural, health related and environmental) and are engaged in volunteering projects and tasks.
